Great quote for dog and man!

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

George Moore, the Irish novelist and man of letters, once said, “A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.”

Well, if you substitute “dog” for “man” in that quote, you have the story of FIRST DOG.
He too goes around the world in search of what he needs–the perfect home–and returns to his old soft patch of grass in the park before he wakes up to find it. And it is only a few blocks away.                                                                                                                           Cheers, Pat

Who’s cuter?

Who's cuter?

Here’s a picture of two fun-loving creatures.  The pretty one is Tug, a Portuguese Water Dog. The other fellow is me, J. Patrick Lewis, co-author with my daughter Beth Zappitello, of First Dog, the book in the photo.  I must say, Tug was a marvelous companion for a photo shoot. I just hope President Obama and his family get a Portuguese Water Dog, and that he is half as nice as Tug.

Speaking of Tug reminded me that the name of the new White House pet is still up in the air. First Lady Michelle Obama has so far ruled out “Frank” and “Moose.”  (Who suggested those names?!).  But First Dog’s name is still a mystery.  What do you think the Obamas should call their dog?  J. Patrick  Lewis (but everyone calls me Pat!)

Why rescue a dog?

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

It is estimated today that there are over four million abandoned dogs in the United States. Across the country, in large urban areas and small rural towns, wonderful dogs are in need of rescue. Abandoned, mistreated or lost, these animals are in desperate need of a loving home. Their lives depend on it. If you and your family can rescue a dog (or a cat), you’ll be rewarded with a loving companion for years to come.

Welcome!
